About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this gig. Mercy's looking for RNs in Wildwood, MO who want the ultimate in schedule control. This is their Gig Nursing Program; think per diem, but built for maximum flexibility. You tell them when you're available, they tell you what's open. It's a straight W 2 position, not contract work.
The Work & The Schedule
You'd be using the nursing process to provide patient care, maintaining your professional accountability for your assigned patients. You'll coordinate care with other departments and evaluate the overall effectiveness of care from other direct caregivers. Patient rights and confidentiality are paramount, and everything's done in line with Mercy's mission and values.
The deal is PRN, or per diem. You need to work a minimum of 12 hours every 90 days to stay active in the program. That's it. Shifts can be 4, 8, or 12 hours long, at various Mercy Hospital Springfield and surrounding community locations. You can pick up day shift or night shift; whatever works for your life.
- There's no weekend requirement.
- No holiday requirement.
- No set shift requirement.
But here’s the real talk: this flexibility is a two way street. You're responsible for scheduling those minimum hours and being available on short notice. The trade off is that shifts aren't guaranteed and the Gig program is first in line for cancellation if things slow down. You've got to be flexible; last minute cancellations can happen.
Where You Could Work
Gig RNs get floated to fill needs in several departments:
- Behavioral Health (BH)
- Emergency Department (ED)

What You Need to Bring
Education: You must be a graduate of an accredited registered professional nursing program. A BSN is preferred, but not required to start.
License: It’s on you to get and maintain a current compact RN license.
Experience: They need recent bedside RN experience.
- For Med Surg roles: one year minimum.
- For all other specialties like ED or ICU: a minimum of two years recent bedside experience.
Certs & Other Details
- The required certifications depend on the unit:
- Med Surg, Behavioral Health, Women’s Health: BLS required.
- Critical Care (ICU): BLS and ACLS required.
- Emergency Department (ED): BLS, ACLS, & PALS. All three are needed here.
The Pay & The Perks
The base pay is $40 an hour.
On top of that there are variable shift incentives.
And since you're a W 2 employee working directly for Mercy you qualify for benefits if you hit 32+ hours per pay period.
