What You'll Do

  • Set up banquet rooms, buffet stations, beverage stations, tables, chairs, linens, service ware, and event equipment following the event order or supervisor's instructions
  • Pull, organize, transport, and stage all the equipment, supplies, serviceware, linens, and other items needed for each catered event
  • Serve food and beverages to guests professionally and on time
  • Handle buffet service, plated meals, receptions, coffee service, breaks, and other catering functions
  • Keep food, beverages, condiments, utensils, napkins, and service items replenished throughout the event
  • Maintain clean and organized service areas during events
  • Watch guest needs and respond promptly and professionally to any requests
  • Follow proper food safety, sanitation, and allergen awareness procedures at all times
  • Tell a supervisor immediately about any guest concerns, service issues, shortages, spills, or safety problems
  • Break down event spaces after service ends: clear tables, remove linens, collect equipment, return items to storage
  • Help with dish return, trash removal, sweeping, mopping, and general cleanup as assigned
  • Handle catering equipment, china, glassware, flatware, and supplies carefully to avoid loss or damage
  • Work well with catering managers, supervisors, culinary staff, and other team members to get events done right
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs

What You Need

Previous experience in food service, catering, banquets, hospitality, or customer service is preferred. Experience in a high volume hospitality or campus dining environment is also helpful.

  • Ability to lift and carry catering equipment, trays, food items, and supplies
  • Stand and walk for long periods
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 25 to 50 pounds depending on operational needs
  • Bend, reach, stoop, and move equipment and supplies
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor event spaces

You need specific service skills too. Knowledge of plated service, buffet service, passed hors d'oeuvres, and beverage service (non alcoholic and alcoholic, if applicable). You should be able to carry and balance a service tray properly, set tables for formal and casual events, and follow a Banquet Event Order (BEO).
