About This Role

What you'll be doing

You're joining a team that supports the FAA's Real Estate group. The core of this role is providing engineering oversight for KVM installations at the Air Traffic Control System Command Center. It's complex, technical work where your decisions have real impact.

Your day to day will involve a lot of review, coordination, and planning to keep things moving smoothly and minimize disruption. You won't just be following a checklist; you'll be analyzing problems and figuring out the solutions.

  • Reviewing site survey reports and providing your technical assessment.
  • Planning future installations. That means looking at rack layouts, cabling plans, redundancy setups, and creating phased strategies so operations aren't interrupted.
  • Coordinating schedules for site prep work.
  • Evaluating existing surveys to figure out what needs to be done on site.
  • Sometimes you'll conduct those site surveys yourself to identify requirements.
  • Researching and putting together cost estimates for your projects.
  • Keeping track of project schedules and what resources they need.
  • Developing the specific plans and specs for each site.
  • When issues pop up during surveys, you analyze them and recommend fixes.
  • A piece of your work involves telecommunications strategic planning.
  • You'll also prepare regular status reports to keep everyone in the loop.

The background we need

The technical side here is non negotiable. You need a strong foundation plus very specific experience in aviation systems. If you're comfortable with agile development and have worked directly with FAA tech or flight planning, that's exactly what we're talking about.

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field with 8 to 12+ years of relevant professional experience. Or, a Master's degree with 6 to 10+ years of experience.
  • You've developed requirements and features before, ideally within an agile program structure.
  • Direct experience on FAA air traffic systems or working on flight planning systems is required.
  • You have hands on experience with voice communications integration and IP radios. Experience with ED 137 compliance is part of this too.

A couple of hard requirements

The location: This role supports the team in Washington, DC (Washington, DC).

The clearance: You must be able to obtain an FAA Public Trust Suitability determination. We need this process started before you can begin work on the program.

The practical stuff

The pay range for this position is $107,900.00 to $195,050.00 annually. This range is a guideline; the final offer depends on factors like your specific experience, education, skillset, internal equity, and market data.
