About This Role
The Job
MedStar Health needs a Physical Therapist Assistant at the MHPT @ Irving Street Ortho location in Washington, DC. This isn't a gig for someone who just wants to punch a clock. You'll be treating patients, making equipment recommendations, and providing training ; all under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist, following the state requirements where you're practicing. We're one of the bigger healthcare systems in the Baltimore Washington metro area, and we've been recognized as one of the "Healthiest Maryland Businesses." That matters.
What You'll Actually Do
- Document and charge for patient care activities so the picture of their progress is crystal clear ; all under that supervising PT and within state rules.
- Keep the lines of communication open with the physical therapist at all times.
- Manage your time well and hit productivity expectations. That means maintaining an accurate schedule, too.
- Show a real professional commitment to making patient access to care frictionless ; through flexibility, adaptability, creativity, and genuine empathy in a patient driven environment.
- Arrange the schedule so the physical therapist can handle re evaluations and discharge summaries.
- Work with the supervising PT on discharge planning, follow up care, and figuring out what equipment the patient needs.
- Bring your own ideas for patient treatment to the table. Don't just follow the script.
- Involve the patient and their family in treatment and discharge planning through education and training.
- Provide treatment services: review relevant history, safely administer modalities, and deliver interventions within the treatment plan's limits under that supervising PT.
- Collaborate with other team members when an interdisciplinary approach makes sense.
- Spot and document changes or responses in a patient's condition. If the treatment plan needs tweaking, you'll contribute to that with the supervising PT.
- Give verbal and written reports for patient progress conferences when applicable.
- Pursue continuing education for your own growth and for the organization's competency. Take the lead on that.
- Serve as a clinical instructor to assigned students when the time comes.
What You Need
- A degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant school.
- An Associate degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
- Licensure in Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and/or Virginia ; whatever your specific location requires.
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers CPR certification.
Pay
The hiring range for this position is $25.86 to $46.12 per hour.
