MRI Technologist

MedStar Health·Washington, DC

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this MRI Tech role at MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. It's a weekend shift position, and we need someone who knows their stuff. The schedule is every Saturday and Sunday from 7:00pm to 7:30am.

What you'll do

You're running diagnostic MRI exams. That means you own the process from start to finish.

  • Start with a patient interview to screen for any contraindications like implants or medical conditions.
  • Figure out the right exam based on the patient's history and verify the prescription and protocol.
  • You'll set all the imaging parameters, handle contrast injections based on patient weight after checking renal function, and make sure the image quality is good before wrapping up.
  • Documentation is key; you'll verify everything is correctly entered in our systems; Cerner, PACS, PenRad, and DynaCAD when it applies.
  • The job also involves keeping things running smoothly. You'll help manage supply inventory, keep your work area clean, and burn films or CDs when they're requested.
  • There's a teaching component too. You'll assist with training new hires and radiology students on procedures and protocols.
  • Other tasks include collecting quality control data for managers and completing all the necessary info system functions for billing and patient records.

What you need to have

The baseline is an Associate’s degree or one to three years of formal training from an AMA accredited school in Radiologic Technology or MRI. Job related experience counts too, as does successfully finishing a formal MRI training program.

A quick note for MedStar Washington Hospital Center Radiology School students: if you've rotated through MRI, that formal training requirement gets waived for you.

  • You must get your ARRT certification in MRI or your ARMRIT certification within your first year on the job.
  • A current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is required from day one.
