Medical Lab Technician
About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this lab role at GW Hospital in Washington, DC.
It's a Cytotechnologist position. You're the person who gets to look at the cellular story; the slides prepared from gynecological and non gynecological specimens. Your main job is to evaluate those human cellular samples from all body sites. You'll also be the technical expert in the room sometimes, helping to train physicians and medical students on the finer points of cytopathology.
A big part of the day is working directly with clinicians. You'll assist them in real time by performing adequacy assessments during Fine Needle Aspirations (FNAs) and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) procedures. It's hands on, collaborative work where your input directly guides patient care.
What you need to bring
- You must have completed a formal Cytotechnology program.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science is required.
- Certification as a Cytologist (CT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists is needed, or at least eligibility to sit for that exam.
- One year of experience in a Cytotechnology lab is desirable; they'd like to see you've been in this specific environment before.

They're "High Performing" in Neurology, Neuroscience, and ten different procedures from COPD to Stroke. They're also a Level I Trauma Center and a Comprehensive Stroke Center. So you're walking into a place that's recognized for its quality.
The benefits package is pretty comprehensive. There's medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug plans. A 401(K) with a company match and a discounted stock plan. Generous Paid Time Off. They even have a SoFi Student Loan Refinancing Program if that's relevant for you. Career development is a real focus here; UHS has over 300 subsidiaries, so there's room to grow.
