About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Med/Surg RN role at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC.

The Role

You'd be working on the Medical Surgical Overflow Unit. It's a busy place that takes patients from all sorts of med/surg specialties when their main units are full. Your job is to keep things running smoothly and safely for people during those transitions.

That means you're providing direct nursing care, monitoring vitals, and giving medications. You'll respond quickly if a patient's condition changes. A big part of the work is collaborating with doctors and the rest of the team to build and follow through on individual care plans.

You also educate patients and their families about conditions, treatments, and what to do after they leave. And of course, you're documenting everything; assessments, what you did, how it turned out; following hospital policy.

The unit has its own quality and safety projects, so you'd be involved in those initiatives too.

What You Need to Bring

  • A nursing degree from an accredited or NLN approved RN program.
  • A current BLS certification.
  • An active state nursing license for where you'll be working.
  • The hospital would really like someone with about a year of full time experience in an acute care setting. If your experience is part time, they're looking for roughly three years' worth.
  • There might be some additional requirements specific to the unit; they'll fill you in on those details.

The Schedule & Pay

This is a full time position. The salary isn't listed here upfront; UHS (the company that runs the hospital) follows local laws about posting pay ranges. What they offer will consider your education and your specific experience in the field.
