What You'll Be Doing
You'll work under the direction of a Supervisory Paralegal or Project Supervisor. This is a law clerk role for trial staff in Washington, DC.
The work involves legal research that ranges from simple to moderately complex. You'll help prepare draft legal documents ; motions, briefs, discovery requests, responses, memoranda of law, that sort of thing. You're also reviewing documents for relevance and privilege, and assisting attorneys through all phases of litigation.
- Prepare Tables of Contents and Tables of Authorities
- Bluebook and cite check briefs
- Conduct research in applicable statutory, regulatory, and case law
- Discern the relevant issues in complex fact patterns
What You Need to Qualify
This role has a few different paths in. A Law degree works. So does currently attending an ABA accredited law school with at least two years of study completed. Or you can substitute seven years of legal training or experience instead.
On top of that, you need at least two years of progressively more responsible experience on litigation support projects or task order related projects. That should include proven capabilities and communication skills to successfully interact with clients and attorneys.
- A sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems
- Knowledge of legal research procedures and resources
- Thorough familiarity with legal research tools like LEXIS and Westlaw
- Excellent written and oral communication skills are expected here
- Hands on comfort with a variety of computer applications ; word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging
- Hands on familiarity with ESI tools plus knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources
- The ability to consistently deliver high quality work under serious pressure is important for this job
- Candidates must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
