About This Role
The Role
You'll work across multiple patient care units at a 532 bed academic medical center and teaching hospital. This isn't a one floor gig. You'll float to medical surgical, telemetry, intermediate care, and even help board patients in the emergency department. The idea is straightforward: bring your skills where they're needed most, shift by shift. It's autonomous work, but you'll collaborate with physician partners and interdisciplinary teams every day. This is a Magnet designated hospital, so the standards are high and the support for nurses is real.
What You'll Actually Do
- Provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs, from routine to highly complex.
- Assess evolving patient conditions and identify both actual and potential health concerns.
- Develop appropriate care plans and either deliver interventions directly or coordinate them with other nursing team members.
- Adapt quickly to different clinical settings and patient populations within the hospital.
- Actively participate in the plan of care for acute and vulnerable patients throughout the facility.
What You Need
- An ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing is required. A BSN is preferred.
- At least two full years of recent acute care, hospital based clinical nursing (RN) experience is required.
- Intermediate Care/Stepdown ICU or Critical Care/ICU experience is preferred.
- Academic Medical Center experience is preferred.
- An active DC RN License is required.
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA or American Red Cross) is required.
Compensation & Benefits
- This position has a hiring range of USD $41.78 to USD $63.66 per hour.
- Nationally recognized nurse wellbeing resources.
- Systemwide referral bonus program: up to $6,000 for each RN and up to $4,000 for each LPN that joins MedStar Health.
- Relocation assistance up to $5,000.
- Free parking for associates.
