Jobot·Washington, DC

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this contract specialist role. It's a consulting position based in Washington, DC, and you'd be the person making sure all our construction contracts are solid, from the first draft to the final signature and beyond. You're not just checking boxes; you're the expert everyone turns to when there's a question about terms, risks, or regulations.

What you'll do

The work is varied, and it keeps you on your toes. You'll handle the full lifecycle of our contracts.

  • You're reviewing, drafting, and negotiating all sorts of agreements. That includes federal and state contracts, making sure everything lines up with our policies and the law.
  • A big part of the job is advising the project team. You'll point out potential risks in plain language so everyone understands what's at stake.
  • Managing the execution process is key. You ensure contracts are implemented correctly and that we stick to what we've agreed to.
  • We do regular reviews and audits of our contracts. You'll spot where we can improve things and help make those changes happen.
  • You're the main contact for contract issues with a lot of different people: clients, suppliers, our own legal advisors. Keeping those relationships smooth is crucial.
  • The rules change all the time. You need to stay current with new legislation and industry trends that could affect our work.
  • Sometimes you'll provide training or guidance to other team members on how our contract processes work.
  • And if a dispute pops up? You handle it; professionally and without letting things drag on.

What you need to bring

This isn't an entry level gig. We need someone who knows their stuff and can hit the ground running.

  • At least five years in contract management. Experience specifically in construction is a huge plus.
  • You have to know federal and state contracts inside and out.
  • A bachelor's degree in Business, Law, or something related is required. If you've got a postgraduate qualification in Contract Management, even better.
  • Your negotiation skills are sharp. More importantly, you can take complex legal terms and explain them clearly to people who aren't lawyers.
  • We need someone who can analyze a situation, see where things might go wrong, and come up with a practical solution.
  • The deadlines here are real. You have to be able to work under pressure without letting quality slide.
  • Be proficient with contract management software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel; the usual suite).
  • A proactive mindset is non negotiable. You can work independently but also collaborate when it's needed.
  • The details matter immensely in this job; missing one can cost us later.
  • A strong understanding of how the construction industry works; and all its rules; is essential for success here.
