Electrician

Constellation Energy·Washington, DC

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this electrician role at our Combined Heat and Power Facility in Washington, DC.

You'd be the person we rely on to keep all the electrical systems humming. That means inspecting, testing, fixing, and maintaining everything from motor control centers and switchgear to plant control systems, breakers, and motors. You'll handle equipment from 480 volts all the way up to 13.8 kV. A big part of the job is diagnosing problems with generators, motors, switches; the whole electrical lineup; and performing both preventative and corrective maintenance to keep things running safely and efficiently.

You're also going to help manage our preventative maintenance program, keep track of the electrical inventory, and maintain calibration records for test equipment. Sometimes you'll install modifications or update control drawings. And you'll work closely with the rest of the operations team; we all pitch in where needed, which could sometimes mean assisting with mechanical tasks or general housekeeping.

The schedule is full time but it isn't always a strict 9 to 5. You need to be available for overtime to cover vacations, plant outages, or emergency work when it comes up.

What you need to bring

  • A high school diploma plus five years of hands on electrical maintenance experience. We'll consider an equivalent mix of education and relevant work.
  • Technical training from a trade school or military service is a big plus; things like electrical certifications.
  • You have to understand medium voltage systems (480V to 13.8 kV) and know how to maintain them.
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and a basic knowledge of how steam plants and combustion turbines work.
  • The ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Solid computer skills: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with analytical troubleshooting and root cause failure analysis is important.

The physical side of things

This isn't a desk job. You'll be on your feet, climbing ladders, reaching, balancing, stooping, crawling, and bending. You need to be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Good vision; close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception; is essential for the work.

Pay & benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $43.27 to $45.19 per hour. The exact offer will depend on your experience.

Beyond that hourly rate:

  • The role includes an annual bonus program.
  • A 401(k) plan with a company match is part of the package.
  • You get comprehensive medical insurance coverage along with dental and vision benefits.
  • A robust wellness program is included too.
  • The company offers paid time off for vacation days as well as holidays and sick leave.
