Cardiac Monitor Technician
About This Role
The Role
This is a job for someone who can watch a cardiac monitor and know, instantly, when something's wrong. You'd be working at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC ; an academic medical center that's known around DC for using advanced tech to deliver high quality care. You'll be part of the Telemetry team, and what you do matters: you're the person who spots a bad rhythm before it becomes a crisis.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
- You'll watch and interpret cardiac rhythms on telemetry patients ; all day, every shift.
- When you see an abnormal rhythm or any change in patient status, you flag it immediately and report it to the nursing team.
- Making sure the telemetry equipment works right and your documentation is accurate is part of this job.
- You'll talk with nurses and doctors about what you're seeing on those monitors.
- When a patient needs telemetry monitoring set up or taken off, you handle that too.
What You Need to Bring
- A high school diploma or a GED.
- A completed EKG or Telemetry certification program ; that's not optional here; they want proof you've done it. Some previous experience in telemetry monitoring or direct patient care. A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
The Schedule Part
>>This isn't a nine to five desk gig. It's full time work in a hospital where patient monitoring never stops. Your shifts will happen around the clock ; days, nights, weekends, holidays ; because those monitors run 24/7.
