About This Role

Job Overview

A good Quality Manager in Toledo, OH is the person who makes sure things aren't just getting done, but getting done right. You'll step into manufacturing facilities, logistics hubs, or service centers where consistency matters. This role is about catching problems before they reach the customer and building systems that prevent them from happening again. It's not a desk job; you're on the floor talking to operators, pulling samples, and digging into data.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Audit processes regularly. You'll walk through production lines or service workflows to spot deviations from the standard. If something's off, you document it and figure out why.
  • Lead root cause analysis. When a defect shows up, you don't just fix it. You trace back to what caused it; equipment failure, human error, supplier material; and put controls in place so it stays fixed.
  • Write and update quality documentation. Work instructions, control plans, ISO procedures; these documents have to be clear enough that someone new could follow them without confusion.
  • Train staff on quality standards. Whether it's a visual inspection technique or how to use a torque wrench correctly, you oversee that training happens and sticks.
  • Interface with customers on complaints. When a client reports a problem, you're the one who responds with facts: what happened, why it happened, and when we've fixed it.

Requirements

  • Three years of experience in quality assurance or quality control, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment. Service industry experience can work too if you've dealt with process controls.
  • A working knowledge of ISO 9001 or similar standards. You don't need to be a certified lead auditor on day one, but you should know how an audit runs and what auditors look for.
  • A high school diploma is required; an associate's degree is better; a bachelor's degree is ideal but not mandatory. Certifications like CQIA (Certified Quality Improvement Associate) or CQT (Certified Quality Technician) count for more than formal education alone.
  • The ability to read blueprints or technical drawings. Even if only basic schematics; you need to understand tolerance ranges and dimensional specifications when checking parts against them.
  • A valid driver's license. Some positions in Toledo, OH require travel between different sites within a reasonable radius. Being able to drive yourself saves everyone time scheduling shared transport.

What It's Like In This Role

The pace varies depending on where your employer sits along the supply chain. One week might be slow enough that you're deep into updating procedure manuals; the next could be chaotic with urgent corrective actions needed overnight. Most teams are small; maybe three to five people in QA plus shift supervisors who rely on your guidance during non office hours. You'll likely use spreadsheet software heavily for tracking metrics like first pass yield rates or scrap percentages. Meetings happen daily but rarely run long if things are stable; ten minutes each morning touching base on priorities keeps everyone aligned without eating up your floor time unnecessarily. Overtime does happen occasionally during end of quarter pushes or major audits so expect some flexibility there yourself too going both ways depending upon workload demands any given month brings around here really quite honestly speaking though many find this kind variation refreshing compared monotony pure desk duties static repetitive tasks naturally anyway moving onward then toward next section below...
