Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed repairs on violins, cellos, guitars, and other stringed instruments, from crack cleats to neck resets.
  • Build new instruments to client specifications or established models, managing the process from initial carving to final setup.
  • Conduct precise instrument assessments and provide clear recommendations to customers.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workshop where every tool has its place.
  • Source quality tonewoods and components, understanding how material choice affects the final sound.

Requirements

  • A steady hand and an ear for acoustics are non negotiable. You can hear a wolf tone and know how to address it.
  • At least three years of professional bench experience in a shop setting is expected.
  • Formal training through an apprenticeship or a specialized lutherie program is highly preferred.
  • The job involves long periods of focused bench work and fine motor control. You'll be lifting instruments and working with sharp tools daily.
