About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this job. I'm recruiting for Upchurch, and we need eight Lead Commercial HVAC Service Techs for a big project in Tampa, FL. We're a full service building engineering company that's been around since 1970, and this is hands on work for someone who knows their stuff.
The Work
You'll be on your own out there, handling the full cycle of commercial HVAC service. That means installing, maintaining, and fixing systems from start to finish with minimal oversight. You've got to be comfortable with the complex stuff.
- Diagnose and repair all kinds of commercial systems: RTUs, chillers, boilers, VAV setups, and split systems.
- Tackle high level troubleshooting and service calls.
- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance to our standards and the customer's.
- Use your tools; multimeters, refrigerant gauges, leak detectors; to test and find problems accurately.
- Check how a system is running and suggest repairs or replacements when it makes sense.
Day to Day Details
It isn't just turning wrenches. There's paperwork and communication that matters just as much. You need to be thorough here.
- Your work orders and service reports have to be detailed and correct. You'll use our field management software for this.
- Keep the lines clear with dispatch, customers, and our internal team. Professional communication is part of the job.
- Safety isn't optional. Follow OSHA rules and our company protocols every single time.
- The company vehicle and your equipment need to stay clean and professional looking. It's part of the presentation.
What You Need to Bring
We're looking for extensive experience. If you don't have it yet, this probably isn't the right fit. Here’s what’s required:
- A long track record diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining those commercial HVAC systems: RTUs, chillers, boilers, VAV systems, split systems.
- Proven skill working solo from the initial call through to completion.
- Sharp diagnostic skills; you can solve problems without someone looking over your shoulder.
- You're proficient with diagnostic tools like multimeters, refrigerant gauges, and leak detectors.
- You've used field management software for service documentation before.
The Extras That Help
A few things aren't mandatory but would make you stand out:
- A working knowledge of BMS or BAS systems is great. Refrigeration or low temperature system repair experience. Industry certifications like NATE are a plus.
