Alright, let's talk about this Cook role at Busch Gardens in Tampa, FL. It's not just a kitchen job; it's part of the show. You're making the food that fuels a day of thrills for people from all over. The pay starts at $15.50 an hour, and you're eligible for the tipped pool program on top of that.
What you'll do
You're preparing food to a specific standard, which means following recipes and menu specs closely. Safety is huge here; you'll be using protective gear, testing food temps, and sticking to all HACCP guidelines.
- Cook on a variety of equipment. We're talking open flame char grills, smokers, steam kettles, woks, and big bakery machines.
- A lot of prep work is involved; cutting and chopping vegetables, fruits, and meats.
- You'll assemble items like wraps, sandwiches, salads, and fruit cups.
- Keeping your station clean and sanitary is part of the deal for every shift.
- You need to know the top eight allergens cold because you'll be preparing special dietary meals.
- This isn't a back of house only gig. You'll interact with team members and guests directly, so service matters.
What you need to bring
You've got to be comfortable working with all food types, including major allergens. We need at least one year of cooking experience on the job; culinary school can count toward that if you have it.
- Solid knife skills are required.
- You must be able to pass SafeStaff training and the RCS Responsible Vendor Training for alcohol service.
- The ability to train on and use all sorts of protective gear and kitchen equipment is non negotiable.
- The kitchen gets busy. You need to multitask in a high production environment without getting flustered.
- Communicating clearly and professionally with coworkers, vendors, and guests is key.
A valid state driver's license is preferred but not mandatory. If you have in depth food safety or allergen knowledge already? That's a definite plus.
The physical side & schedule
This is an active job. Be ready for extensive walking and standing your whole shift. You might need to climb or work at heights occasionally.
- You must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds.
- The work involves kneeling, squatting, bending from floor to waist and waist to overhead, reaching overhead, and detailed hand tasks like using tools or writing.
- You'll work both indoors and outdoors in all kinds of weather; including extreme heat. You could be exposed to fumes, dust odors hot temperatures cold temperatures… it's a theme park kitchen after all
- Clemical cleaning duties are part of the routine too
