About This Role
Job Overview
This role centers on helping people get better sleep ; literally. As a Sleep Technologist in Tallahassee, FL, you'll work overnight and early morning shifts monitoring patients undergoing sleep studies. You'll set up equipment, track brain waves and breathing patterns, and handle any issues that pop up during the night. The environment is clinical but calm: dark rooms, quiet hallways, and the steady hum of monitors. It's not for everyone, but if you're comfortable working independently through the night and have a knack for noticing subtle changes in data, this could be a solid fit.
Duties & Responsibilities / JobXi / Tallahassee, FL
- Apply electrodes and sensors ; You'll place them precisely on patients according to protocol. A shaky setup means bad data.
- Monitor polysomnography recordings throughout the night. This isn't passive; you'll adjust leads when they loosen or signals drift.
- Score sleep stages and events after each study using standard classification rules. Accuracy matters because these scores guide treatment decisions.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions on the fly ; amps disconnect, wires tangle, sensors fail mid study. You fix it or call backup fast.
- Document patient behavior and observations. Snoring patterns? Movement? Apnea events? Write it down clearly for the interpreting physician.
- Communicate with patients about their experience. Some are nervous first timers; others are veterans who've done multiple studies. Adjust your approach accordingly.
Requirements / JobXi / Tallahassee, FL
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, plus completion of an accredited Polysomnography program.
- CPSGT or RPSGT credential is preferred but not always mandatory depending on employer policy in Tallahassee, FL.
