What You'll Do on Site
This is a traveling superintendent role for MasTec Industrial in Tacoma, WA. You'll coordinate construction project activities on site, with the goal of finishing work ahead of schedule and within budget and specifications. The actual duties shift depending on the client and project size. You might be based anywhere in the U.S., since this is a project based position and you'll travel up to 90% of the time. Average project assignments run 8 to 18 months. We offer designated per diem on top of a good base salary to cover living expenses, plus mobilization support that may include mileage reimbursement. You get one longer weekend every four weeks for extra time at home, and either a company vehicle with a fuel card or a vehicle allowance.
Day to Day Responsibilities
- Perform every duty that a foreman handles.
- Promote and follow all company and safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate and delegate site activities for foremen and field personnel to hit deadlines and production goals.
- Coordinate activities of one or more subcontractors.
- Work with the client to keep the project on schedule and under budget.
- Ensure materials arrive on time, check for damage, and verify quantities.
- Handle receipt of all deliveries.
- Document any material damage on packing slips, or take photos if needed.
- Document any change order requests from the client.
- Monitor paper flow ; make sure all documents are accounted for, filled out completely, legible, and filed or sent to the right people.
- Plan ahead and order materials or equipment to keep crews productive.
- Maintain a thorough working knowledge of specifications and how they affect job quality and production.
- Investigate and resolve contract disputes by making recommendations to upper management for final action.
- Recommend best practice improvements for production, performance, quality, and safety.
- Understand specifications, blueprints, addendums, and change orders.
- Recognize any changes to the work plan and track them accordingly.
- Perform minor job layout with levels, transit, and string line.
- Check the quality of completed work.
- Monitor productivity reports and the corresponding payroll records.
- Handle customer complaints immediately with your supervisor.
- Ensure proper safety equipment is available and being used correctly.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with customers to encourage repeat and referral business.
- Facilitate technical and safety training, and send employees to appropriate training schools as needed.
- Assist Human Resources by interviewing, making hiring and training recommendations, appraising work performance, and addressing employee complaints in the field.
- Manage, lead direct reports, and mentor them.
Who You'll Supervise
You'll supervise a minimum of one to two foremen, leadmen, and crews of up to 30 or more employees.
What You Need to Bring
ExperienceFive years of experience or knowledge in a supervisory role in heavy industrial construction.
Skills and Abilities- Know MasTec Industrial Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
- When you're on site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Set a personal example of safe behavior.
- Considerable knowledge of all construction tools, machinery methods, and procedures.
