About This Role
Job Overview
If you know that a good groom is about more than just a haircut, this role is for you. We're connecting skilled Pet Groomers with local salons and shops in the St. Louis, MO area who need someone who understands animal behavior as much as styling. This isn't just clipping nails; it's about providing a calm, positive experience for pets and giving their owners clear, helpful advice.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform full service grooms including bathing, drying, brushing, and breed standard or client requested haircuts.
- Conduct gentle handling and restraint techniques to ensure the safety and comfort of each animal in your care.
- Check pets for common skin issues, parasites, or abnormalities during grooming, reporting concerns to pet owners.
- Maintain detailed client records and notes on pet preferences, coat conditions, and any behavioral notes for future visits.
- Keep your workstation impeccably clean, sanitizing tools and tubs between every appointment to meet health standards.
Requirements
- A steady hand and an even steadier patience level; you’ll be working with animals of all temperaments.
- Hands on experience with clippers, shears, dryers, and other grooming tools is essential. Formal training or certification is a plus but not always required.
- The physical stamina to stand for most of the day, lift medium sized dogs (up to 50 lbs), and manage a busy schedule.
- A genuine fondness for animals and the ability to communicate clearly with their sometimes anxious humans.
What It's Like in This Role
You'll typically work in a salon style environment where the buzz of clippers and dryers is the background music. It's a solo focused role in terms of your technical work on each pet, but you're part of a small team that shares cleanup duties and client notes. Most days are booked back to back with appointments, so time management is crucial. You'll use booking software to manage your schedule and likely have a set of personal tools you rely on daily.
Why You'll Like This Opportunity
The work itself offers variety; no two dogs or cats are the same. Many employers in St. Louis, MO offer flexible scheduling options that can fit around other commitments. There's always something new to learn, whether it's a new breed cut or a better way to soothe an anxious pet. For those interested, there's clear potential to build your own clientele or advance into senior grooming or management positions over time.
Schedule & Work Type
This is primarily an onsite position within a grooming facility. Opportunities range from full time to part time hours. Schedules often include weekends, as that's when many clients are available for appointments. Some roles may offer early morning starts or evening shifts depending on the business hours of the hiring employer in St. Louis, MO.
