Executive Chef

Sodexo·St. Louis, MO

About This Role

The Opportunity

Sodexo is looking for an Executive Chef 3 to run culinary operations at Nebraska Medicine in St. Louis, MO. This is a hospital setting, so it's not just any kitchen. You'll manage everything from procurement and purchasing to mentoring frontline staff and building menus that actually fit what the client needs. If you've got a solid track record in high volume food service and you know how to make systems stick, this could be your next move.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Implementing and standardizing culinary systems and procedures across the medical center
  • Managing, directing, and mentoring frontline kitchen staff ; helping them grow and do better work
  • Handling procurement and purchasing for the operation
  • Creating menus based on what the client wants, not just what's easy
  • Bringing innovative, fresh ideas into retail, catering, and patient services
  • Building real interpersonal relationships with the client to keep things running smoothly

What You Need to Bring

  • A strong culinary background ; specifically in a high volume environment like hospitals, large restaurants, or institutional food service
  • Real management experience. Not just supervising; actually running shifts and developing people
  • Menu planning experience with a solid understanding of current culinary trends (not just recipes from 10 years ago)
  • Computer skills that don't slow you down ; you're organized and detail focused in how you work
  • The ability to set up processes from scratch, create efficiencies where there are none, and solve problems without needing someone to hold your hand through it all
  • ServSafe Certified, plus proven working knowledge of HACCP standards. This isn't optional.

The Basics: Experience & Education

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience accepted instead.
  • Management experience: At least 3 years.
  • Culinary experience: At least 3 years of work in food or culinary services ; could be restaurants, fast food, vending, catering services, institutional services (like schools or hospitals), mall food courts ; anything where you were actually cooking or running a kitchen.

The Pay & Benefits Part (The Real Stuff)

Sodexo figures compensation based on your specific education level and years of relevant experience. It's fair but not arbitrary ; they look at what you bring: your skills, education, training. The benefits package includes:

  • Medical insurance.
