Pediatric ICU RN ; Avera McKennan Hospital
This is a PICU nursing role at Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls, SD. You'd be working with a multidisciplinary team, caring for kids who need intensive care. The position is 72 hours per two week pay period, with 12 hour rotating day/night shifts.
You'll work every other weekend and holiday, plus occasional call. The shift is primarily days, but expect some evenings and weekends too.
There's a sign on bonus available for this role ; $6,000 or $15,000, depending on eligibility.
What you'd actually do day to day
- Develop nursing care plans by taking medical histories, examining patients, and documenting physical condition, psychological status, and social factors that affect care. You'll confer with family and friends to build a full picture.
- Deliver direct patient care by following physician orders, communicating the nursing care plan to the whole healthcare team, and coordinating with other providers. This includes physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support for patients and their families.
- Teach patients and their families about conditions, medications, and self care. You'll set care goals, answer questions, and point them to resources.
- Evaluate how patients are doing by checking their progress against standards, reviewing records, noting any changes, and adjusting the care plan as needed.
- Keep the environment safe ; follow infection control protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. Alert others about any potential concerns.
- Document everything in patient and department records.
- Handle patient care equipment: follow operating instructions, troubleshoot problems, maintain supplies, perform preventive maintenance, and call for repairs when needed.
- Stock patient care supplies ; check inventory, anticipate needs, place orders, verify receipts.
- Keep your nursing skills up to date as directed by leadership.
What you need to qualify
You need an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where you'll practice. That's required upon hire.
They prefer 1 to 3 years of experience working in a clinical environment. If you've got that, great. If not, it's still worth applying if you have the license.
You also need to be able to work the schedule listed above. Visual acuity for the work is important, and you need to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds. Pay and benefits
Pay ranges from $32.50 to $48.50 per hour. Your actual rate depends on experience.
