What You'll Do

This is an L&D RN role at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. You'll be working rotating day/night 12 hour shifts, every 3rd weekend and holiday. Two years of L&D experience is required.

You're the person who develops nursing diagnoses and care objectives for each patient. You define nursing interventions and provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends. You help them understand conditions, medications, and self care skills, and you're always noting changing conditions and needs, then reevaluating care objectives accordingly.

You review physician prescriptions and communicate the nursing care plan to the whole health care team. You coordinate with other providers, confer with physicians, and document everything in patient and department records. When you develop a nursing care plan, you get medical histories, examine patients, document physical condition and psychological status, and consider social factors. You also conference with family and friends.

Teaching is a big part of the job. You set patient care goals and instruct patients, families, and friends on conditions, medications, and self care skills. You answer questions and point them toward resources. You evaluate care by measuring health outcomes against standards, reviewing records, and modifying plans when needed.

You maintain a safe environment by following infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations. You keep equipment operating by following instructions and troubleshooting problems. You keep supplies ready by checking stock, anticipating needs, and placing orders. You also maintain competence in nursing capabilities outlined by leadership.

What You Need

• An active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice ; required upon hire
• 2 years of L&D experience required
• 1 to 3 years experience in a clinical environment preferred
• Ability to work the specified shifts: rotating days/evenings/nights/weekends/holidays, 12 hour shifts, every 3rd weekend and holiday
• Visual acuity to perform position duties and ability to communicate effectively, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.00 to $48.00 per hour. Actual rate depends on experience.

Schedule

Rotating days and nights. 12 hour shifts. Every 3rd weekend and holiday. This is a regular, onsite position at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.
