About This Role

The Role

You'll take ownership of the Infection Prevention program at Avera McKennan Hospital. This means developing, managing, and evaluating every piece of it, from policy to practice. You'll work closely with the Quality Care Committee and IPAC leadership to make sure our surveillance, prevention, and infection control efforts are solid.

What You'll Actually Do

  • Teach employees the infection prevention policies and procedures that keep everyone safe.
  • Use the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) surveillance definitions to track healthcare associated infections, and submit that data to NHSN.
  • You'll be the super user for NHSN ; handling data entry, submission, and retrieval.
  • Maintain data management logs and databases for all program records, aiming for 100% accuracy.
  • Review lab results and patient information through our Clinical Surveillance Program.
  • Put together healthcare associated infection statistics and present them to the Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) Committee and nursing units.
  • Assist with IPAC committee meetings.
  • Investigate outbreaks and any changes in infection rates.
  • Evaluate outcomes and processes to find opportunities for improvement.
  • Make sure we're in compliance with federal and state regulatory agencies.
  • Work with public health on communicable disease reporting.
  • Collaborate with Employee Health, Environmental Safety, and individual departments to educate staff, monitor compliance, and recommend improvements.
  • Participate in Environmental Rounds and rounding on department units (ancillary and nursing) as needed.
  • Work with quality staff on healthcare associated infection committees by providing data and guidance.
  • Keep your infection prevention knowledge current through APIC membership, national conferences, and facility supported education.

What You Need

  • An active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice ; you need this before you start.
  • 1 to 3 years of acute care clinical nursing experience.
  • A Certified in Infection Control (CIC) credential from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc. (CBIC) is preferred but not required.

Work Details

This is a day shift role. You'll work regular day shift hours at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. The schedule supports a consistent work life rhythm.

Pay

Your actual pay rate depends on your experience. The range for this position is $64,480.00 to $96,200.00 per year.
