The Job
This is a Flight Paramedic role based in Sioux Falls, SD with Avera Health. You'll be working out of one of three bases located in Sioux Falls, SD, Aberdeen, SD and Pierre, SD. Paramedics may be eligible for a $3,500 sign on bonus. RNs could be eligible for a $15,000 sign on bonus. The schedule runs on 12 hour shifts: 7:00am to 7:30pm or 7:00pm to 7:30am. You'll rotate every other weekend and holiday. Your schedule comes out six weeks in advance, and the team considers your preferences when building it.
What You'll Do
You'll provide emergency medical services under the direction and supervision of the Emergency Department Physician and management. The goal is high quality patient care according to Avera's standards and the Careflight Program's objectives.
- Collect patient health data from patients, referring healthcare providers, and patient charts.
- Analyze that data to help determine diagnoses and identify problem areas.
- Identify expected outcomes and goals that are individualized for each patient.
- Develop a plan of care that prescribes interventions to hit those expected outcomes during transport.
- Implement the interventions identified in the plan of care.
- Evaluate each patient's progress toward their outcomes, and call the medical director for orders or use protocols already in place.
- Look at your own practice against professional standards and relevant regulations.
- Complete peer evaluations when asked.
- Keep your knowledge of practice, procedures, and care current.
- Work with patients, their significant others, and other healthcare providers to deliver appropriate care.
- Use research findings in your practice when it makes sense.
- Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost when planning and delivering patient care.
- All Careflight personnel need to maintain physical health and proper weight, not to exceed 240 pounds.
What You Need
You need to be able to work the hours specified. You also need visual acuity for position duties and the ability to communicate, hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds. - Certified Flight Paramedic (FP C) from the International Board of Speciality Certification (IBSC) within 2 years
- EMT certification from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT)
- An active EMT license in the state of practice upon hire
- EMT certification from South Dakota Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners (SDBMOE) upon hire
- EMT certification from North Dakota Health and Human Services within 90 days
- A valid driver's license upon hire
- 3 years of field experience in ALS ambulance, previous teaching experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Proficiency in all EMS skills and familiarity with various EMS training techniques
- A bachelor's degree is preferred
The Details
The pay range for this position is $24.00 to $51.50 per hour. Your actual rate depends on your experience. The schedule is rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
