
About This Role
What You'll Do
You'll provide care and treatment to patients on maintenance dialysis. This is work that happens within the scope of nursing practice, and if you're in a home dialysis role, you'll train patients or their caregivers on self care and home dialysis.
Some specifics of the job:
- Keep your technical skills for dialysis treatments sharp and up to date. Oversee and delegate tasks to department staff.
- Understand water room equipment operation and function, and make sure everything stays compliant.
- Follow departmental policies and procedures around safety, infection control, environmental standards, and performance improvement.
- Document in patient records per policy.
- Maintain an environment and documentation that meets state and federal regulations, including CMS/ESRD Renal Network, plus Quality Assurance and Process Improvement efforts.
- Coordinate patient care with the Medical Director, Nephrologist, patients, families, other nursing staff, and all ancillary departments.
- Act as an advocate for patients and their families.
- Work with patients, families, and other providers on care plans. Identify what patients and families need to learn, then develop, implement, and evaluate an educational plan for them.
- Provide patient education on the dialysis process, related procedures, and care and management of dialysis accesses.
Schedule
Shifts rotate across days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. You'll work 72 hours every two weeks.
Pay
Pay ranges from $32.50 to $48.50 per hour, depending on your experience.
What You Need
You need an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where you'll practice, and you need to have that license by the time you start.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CHN) from BONENT, or Certified Peritoneal Dialysis Nurse (CPDN) from BONENT, or Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) from NNCC, or another relevant specialty certification from ASHI. These certifications should be obtained upon hire.
- Dialysis experience or critical care experience.
- If you're working as a home dialysis nurse, 1 3 years of nursing experience is needed, plus an additional 3 months of experience in each specific modality (hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis) you'll be training patients on.
