About This Role
What You'll Do
This is a full time role as a Cardiac Technician at the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. You'll work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, with 8 hour day shifts scheduled between 7:00am and 5:00pm.
You'll conduct a wide range of non invasive cardiac tests for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. This means monitoring patient heart functions using different kinds of cardiology equipment. You'll place electrodes correctly for EKGs and telemetry (holter) monitoring, and you'll operate those machines the right way. Checking, calibrating, and maintaining the equipment falls to you too ; that's how you make sure everything runs properly and test results are accurate.
You'll also provide care and counseling to cardiac patients, keeping them comfortable and safe during tests and treatments. When you notice critical values, abnormalities, or changes in a patient's responses, you'll alert nurses or physicians. You'll obtain patient information and medical histories, interpret EKG results, and generate factual written reports. In some departments, you might monitor multiple patients at once while critically interpreting rhythms and communicating concerns with the staff.
What You Need
High school diploma or equivalent is required. You should have knowledge of basic cardiac anatomy and physiology, plus a working knowledge of basic and intermediate life threatening cardiac rhythms. You'll also need familiarity with special equipment used in cardiac testing, computers, and medical terminology.
You must meet at least one of these criteria ; the facility or department will decide which one applies based on their needs:
- Possess a Certified Cardiographic Technician certification
- Associate's degree or higher in a health science field
- Three years of experience as a cardiac technician
- If you don't have any of the above, you can get a Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT), Cardiac Rhythm Monitoring certification (CRAT), or National Telemetry Certification (National Telemetry Association) within one year of starting the position. The department will tell you which certification fits their workflows.
