About This Role
The Job
Amazon Data Services, Inc. keeps the cloud running. We're the people who design, plan, deliver, and operate all of AWS's global infrastructure. That means every server, storage system, piece of networking gear, and power and cooling unit inside our data centers. It's a lot of hardware, and our customers count on it to be there when they need it. You'll work on the toughest problems in infrastructure ; problems with thousands of moving parts across the supply chain. You'll collaborate with software engineers, hardware engineers, network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers. The goal is simple: deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
What You'll Actually Do
As a Data Center Technician in Seattle, WA, you'll own infrastructure build projects from start to finish. That means leading cross functional technical teams from that first conceptual design feasibility study all the way through requirements, budget, completed design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
You'll use your judgment, negotiation skills, and ability to influence without authority to keep things moving. You'll manage capital budgets, eliminate work that doesn't add value, design solutions, remove blockers, and find creative ways to speed up project delivery. You'll collaborate with stakeholders across multiple time zones.
- Lead technical teams through the full project lifecycle ; from concept to deployment
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality, and risk
- Track and report metrics, and develop new ones as needed
- Apply project management tools and techniques for all phases of the project
- Understand mechanical and electrical engineering concepts enough to communicate with engineers
- Work with MS Office, MS Project, and MS SharePoint daily
- Use Tableau, KanBan, Playbook, SQL, or systems integration experience if you have it (that's a plus)
What You Need to Have
We're looking for someone with real hands on experience in technical infrastructure management. You've done this before, and you know what works.
- 3+ years of technical infrastructure management experience
- Knowledge of best practices and emerging technologies related to infrastructure ; network, data center, hardware, software
- Experience with different scenarios of infrastructure builds
What Would Make You Stand Out
These aren't required, but they'll help you hit the ground running.
- PMP certification
- Master's degree
Why This Role
You'll work on projects at massive scale ; the kind of technical challenges you won't find anywhere else. You'll own your work from beginning to end, and you'll be empowered to make decisions. Amazon values diverse experiences, so don't worry if you don't meet every preferred qualification. If your career hasn't followed a traditional path, that's fine. Apply anyway.
