About This Role
Job Overview
At Savannah, GA, the airport never sleeps. As an Airport Customer Service Agent, you're the first face travelers see. You check them in, handle their bags, and answer questions about gates and delays. It's a job where you're on your feet all day, solving problems in real time. You'll deal with stressed passengers and tight schedules, but you'll also make trips start smoothly. This role works inside the terminal, with airlines or ground handling companies that operate out of Savannah, GA.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Check passengers in for flights at the counter or kiosk. You'll verify IDs, print boarding passes, and tag luggage.
- Handle ticketing issues. Seat changes, standby lists, and rebookings after cancellations are part of your day.
- Direct travelers to gates, restrooms, and baggage claim. You answer the same questions over and over, but each passenger needs a fresh reply.
- Assist with boarding. You'll scan tickets at the gate, help with strollers, and manage carry on bag limits.
- Announce flight changes and delays over the PA system when needed. You'll keep a calm voice even when things go sideways.
- Work with gate agents and ramp crews to ensure flights leave on time. It's a team effort.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED. Some employers prefer an associate degree, but it's not mandatory.
- You can stand and walk for entire shifts. This isn't a desk job; expect 6 to 10 hours on your feet.
- Basic computer skills. You'll use airline reservation systems and check in software.
- Ability to lift bags up to 50 pounds occasionally. You might help a passenger with a heavy suitcase.
- Flexible schedule. Flights run early morning through late night, including weekends and holidays.
- U.S. work authorization. Most roles require passing a background check and a drug test.
What It's Like in This Role
You'll work inside a busy terminal at Savannah, GA. The noise level is high; announcements, conversations, and jet engines in the background. Your team is small, maybe 4 to 10 agents per shift, and you'll rely on each other during rushes. Tools include a computer terminal, a headset, and a printer for bag tags. Schedules vary, but expect early starts around 4 AM or late finishes past midnight. Breaks are staggered, and lunch might happen at odd hours. It's structured but unpredictable; one minute you're idle, the next you're handling a full flight. The pace picks up during holidays and summer travel.
Why You'll Like This Opportunity
This role is a foot in the door at Savannah, GA. You learn airline operations from the ground up. Many agents move into supervisory roles or switch to other airport positions like gate agent or cargo handler. The schedule can work around school or another part time job if you pick the right shift. You'll meet travelers from all over, which keeps the day interesting. Different employers offer this kind of work, so you're not tied to one company's culture. It's a role where you can prove yourself and grow.
Schedule & Work Type
Onsite at Savannah, GA only. Shifts are full time or part time, typically 20 to 40 hours per week. Expect rotating schedules that cover mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Some employers offer set shifts after probation. Remote work is not an option for this role.
