Registered Nurse

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Labor and Delivery RN role at Presbyterian in Santa Fe, NM. I've been placing nurses here for over a decade, and their L&D unit is a special place. They're looking for someone who genuinely wants to be there for families during one of the most significant moments of their lives. New grads are absolutely welcome here, which isn't always the case in this specialty.

The Work

You'll be the primary nurse for expectant mothers, their newborns, and their families from labor through delivery and into the initial postpartum period. It's a full clinical partnership; you're assessing, monitoring, and managing care every step of the way.

  • Performing and interpreting fetal heart rate monitoring is a core part of the day.
  • You'll collaborate directly with obstetricians and midwives during deliveries. This includes assisting with cesarean sections and stepping in during emergency situations.
  • A big part of the job is providing care and education to new mothers. Think breastfeeding support, infant care basics, and guiding them through postpartum recovery.
  • You'll administer medications, IV fluids, and epidurals, monitoring closely for any reactions.
  • The role requires you to respond quickly to obstetric emergencies. Things like maternal hemorrhage, fetal distress, or neonatal complications demand calm, decisive action.

What You Need to Bring

The baseline requirements are non negotiable; they need to be in place before you start.

  • An Associate Degree in Nursing is required.
  • You must have a State of New Mexico RN license or a Compact State license that includes New Mexico.
  • A current BLS certification is required at the time of hire.

Schedule & Pay

This is a full time position working 0.9 FTE. That translates to three 12 hour night shifts per week. The shift differential for nights applies here.

The pay range for this role is $37.80 to $51.00 per hour. Where you land in that range depends on your experience and training. Sign on and relocation bonuses are available for qualified candidates.

How They Support You

Presbyterian puts real resources behind their nurses' growth and safety. For new graduates, there's a structured residency program you'll participate in. It includes monthly seminars from the Residency Team, peer debriefing sessions, mentoring groups, and rounding support; it's all designed to help you transition confidently into practice.

  • They offer tuition reimbursement and certification reimbursement alongside scholarship opportunities.
  • There's a Staff Safety system with wearable badges so nurses can discreetly call for help if needed.
  • Beyond night/weekend diffs, you can earn differentials for higher education degrees or certifications relevant to lead roles (if eligible).
  • Malpractice liability insurance is provided by Presbyterian; it’s not something you pay for out of pocket as an employee here. Loan forgiveness programs are available through the New Mexico Higher Education Department. The system uses EPIC for electronic charting. Their employee wellness program is pretty robust: free access to on site and community gyms, nutrition coaching classes mindfulness resources even organized wellness challenges. And look they’re offering comprehensive medical dental vision life insurance plans plus paid time off separate sick leave retirement plans with matching contributions standard stuff but solid.
