Job Overview

This Med/Surg RN position is for a nurse ready to manage a diverse patient load in an acute care setting. You'll coordinate care for adults with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions, from post operative recovery to complex chronic disease management. The role is based in San Jose, CA, serving the local community's inpatient needs.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and wound care while monitoring for efficacy and side effects.
• Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and rehab staff to adjust treatment pathways daily.
• Educate patients and their families on discharge instructions and long term health management.
• Accurately document all care in the electronic health record, ensuring compliance and continuity.

Requirements

• A current, unencumbered RN license valid in the state where San Jose, CA is located.
• At least one year of recent experience in an adult medical surgical hospital unit.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association; ACLS is often preferred.
• The stamina for 12 hour shifts, which includes prolonged standing, walking, and lifting/positioning patients.
• A calm demeanor under pressure, able to prioritize multiple urgent tasks simultaneously.

You'll work on a unit where the pace changes by the hour. One moment you're managing post op pain, the next you're admitting a new patient with uncontrolled diabetes. The team relies on quick hallway consults and seamless hand offs. Most facilities use Epic or Cerner for charting. Expect a mix of day and night shift rotations depending on unit needs; you'll typically have a set schedule several weeks out.
