Outside Sales Representative

US Foods, Inc.·San Francisco, CA

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this sales role. It's not about pushing boxes; it's about building a book of business in the foodservice world. You're the main point of contact for your customers in San Francisco, CA, and your job is to make them more successful. That means knowing their menu, their challenges, and how our products and services can help them win.

What you'll be doing

Your day is yours to structure, but it revolves around your customers. You'll spend most of your time out in your territory, not at a desk.

  • Manage and grow relationships with your existing accounts. You're their consultant, helping with everything from product suggestions to pricing.
  • Find new business. This involves cold calling, using market data, following leads, and networking at trade shows or local events.
  • Work with our internal specialists on big opportunities or when a new account is opening up.
  • Coordinate with other teams; like marketing, supply chain, and customer service; to make sure deliveries and service are seamless for your customers.
  • Solve problems when they pop up, like a delivery issue or a stock out.
  • Know what's happening in the local market. What are competitors doing? What new products are chefs talking about?
  • You'll use your own vehicle to visit customers regularly. Mileage is reimbursed.

The basics we need from you

We've got a solid training program and leaders who will coach you. Here’s the foundation you should have.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • You need a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • At least one year of sales experience is a big plus.
  • Experience in foodservice; like culinary, restaurant management, or hospitality; is also preferred.
  • You have to be comfortable communicating clearly, whether it's in a presentation or just solving a problem over the phone.
  • Building relationships is the core of this job, both inside the company and out with new prospects.
  • A drive to hit and exceed goals definitely helps here.
  • Being organized and good at negotiating doesn't hurt either.
  • Talking tech: proficiency with Microsoft Office is expected. If you've used a CRM like Salesforce before, that's an advantage.
  • The job can involve occasionally lifting up to 75 pounds.
