Network Engineer

Job Overview

This Network Engineer role is about building and maintaining the digital backbone that keeps a business running. You'll handle everything from core routing and switching to security and cloud connectivity, ensuring network performance and reliability for users in San Francisco, CA and beyond. Duties & Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and deploy network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless controllers.
• Monitor network performance, troubleshoot outages, and resolve complex connectivity issues; sometimes under pressure.
• Implement and manage security measures like VPNs, access control lists, and intrusion prevention systems.
• Automate repetitive tasks using scripting tools to improve efficiency and reduce manual errors.
• Create and maintain clear documentation for network diagrams, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Collaborate on projects that may involve cloud platforms (like AWS or Azure) and their integration with on premise networks.

Requirements

• A solid grasp of networking protocols: TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, and DNS are part of your daily vocabulary.
• Hands on experience with hardware from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, or Palo Alto. You know how to get into the CLI.
• Familiarity with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG) and packet analysis with Wireshark.
• Typically 3+ years in a network engineering or similar admin role is expected for this level of responsibility.
• A relevant certification (CCNA/CCNP CompTIA Network+, etc.) is a strong plus but not always mandatory if experience is there.
• The job involves being on call periodically. You need to stay focused during troubleshooting sessions that can last several hours.

You'll spend part of your day heads down configuring gear or writing scripts, and another part working with systems admins or security analysts to solve cross functional problems.
