Shift Manager

LESLIES POOLMART INC·San Diego, CA

About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this Shift Manager spot at Leslie's in San Diego, CA. I've been placing people here for a while. It's not just a keys and deposit gig; you're really learning the business from the ground up. The store manager will show you the ropes on everything from daily sales to managing expenses. You'll run shifts, help with merchandising, and make sure the place looks sharp and welcoming.

What you'll be doing

  • Work directly with the General Manager to understand store operations, sales targets, profit goals, and controlling costs.
  • You'll handle water testing for customers and basic mechanical repairs on pool equipment.
  • A big part of this is helping to grow sales, both for residential customers and commercial accounts.
  • Keeping the team safe is non negotiable; you'll ensure everyone follows all safety protocols.
  • You've got an eye for talent and will help spot good candidates to join the crew.
  • Maintaining a clean, well stocked, and inviting store environment is key.
  • Assist with inventory control and merchandising tasks.
  • The role includes opening and closing the store. Closing duties may involve taking the day's bank deposit to the bank.

What you need to bring

A few things are firm requirements. You must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are also required because of that bank deposit run. You need to be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.

On the experience side, they're looking for at least one year in retail if you're coming from outside Leslie's. If you're already internal, you need at least six months as a Lead with successful completion of your Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced training modules. And listen; to even qualify for this role and get keys, you have to pass the testing on all required Intermediate training first. They will consider new hires who have at least six months of prior management experience elsewhere.

  • Some prior experience leading a team is definitely preferred.
  • You need solid communication skills and should be comfortable using a computer.
  • You must complete all required company training within your first two months.
  • A big one: you have to be able to qualify for their internal succession program.

The details

The pay range is $16.85 to $18.85 an hour. Where you land in that range depends on your education, experience, skills, internal equity, and market data. This is a full time position with opening and closing shift responsibilities.
