About This Role

Job Overview

This is a job for a dietitian. You know the work. You’ll assess, educate, and counsel individuals or groups on nutrition. The specifics depend entirely on where you end up, of course. It could be in a clinic, a community program, or another setting entirely in the San Diego, CA area.

Your main goal is to translate science into practical food choices that make a real difference for people.

Duties & Responsibilities

Here’s what you can generally expect to be doing day to day.

  • Conducting nutritional assessments and developing personalized care plans.
  • Patient education is a big part of it. You’re explaining complex things in simple, actionable terms.
  • Documentation. There’s always charting and note keeping to track progress.
  • Collaborating with other healthcare providers as part of a broader care team.
  • Some roles involve community outreach or developing educational materials.

Requirements

A few things you’ll need to have lined up.

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a closely related field is the baseline.
  • Current registration as a Dietitian (RD/RDN) is non negotiable for most positions.
  • A couple years of clinical or community nutrition experience really helps your application stand out.
  • The mental focus to handle detailed assessments and sensitive conversations with patients is key. It can be emotionally demanding work sometimes.

What It's Like In This Role

The environment changes from one employer to the next. But some things are pretty consistent. You're rarely sitting still. Your day might split between one on one consults, team meetings, and catching up on paperwork.

You'll use electronic health records constantly. The team around you could include doctors, nurses, therapists; it's collaborative by nature. Expect a mix of scheduled appointments and the need to adapt when urgent issues pop up.

Why You'll Like This Opportunity

The variety gets me every time. One day you're helping someone manage diabetes, the next you might be planning a wellness workshop. Because JobXi lists openings from many different employers across San Diego, CA, you get to see all sorts of settings before you apply.

It's a field where you never stop learning. New research comes out all the time. And there's always room to grow into more specialized areas or leadership if that's your path.

Schedule & Work Type

The listings we see are mostly full time positions with traditional weekday hours. Part time roles pop up too, especially in outpatient or community centers. The work is almost always onsite; fully remote dietitian jobs are less common but not impossible to find here and there.
