About This Role

This Vascular RN Role Is Different. Here's What You'll Actually Do.

You're not just pushing paper or checking vitals all day. In this PRN position at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX, you'll be in the thick of it ; performing interventional radiologic procedures, primarily angiography, under a physician's direction. You'll work with ionizing radiation and other diagnostic methods, and you'll assist the doctor directly while handling all the documentation that comes with it.

This isn't basic X ray work. You need competency in diagnostic, standard, and neurological interventional radiology procedures. That means procedural scrub, room prep and setup, including operating the power injector. You'll follow established standards under a credentialed radiologist or vascular surgeon.

The complex stuff? You'll assist with invasive vascular and therapeutic imaging procedures: diagnostic body and neuro angiograms, vascular and carotid stenting, embolization, stroke intervention, cerebral aneurysms. You'll hold pressure and place closure devices. You'll operate ultrasound machines and handle 3D imaging processing. And you'll help prepare embolic material for embolization ; catheters, angioplasty balloons, vascular stents, coils.

Schedule & On Call Expectations

This is a PRN role, so your schedule will vary. But here's a key detail: you must participate in the on call schedule. For neurological cases specifically, you need to live within 30 minutes of the hospital to meet required response times.

What You Need to Bring

  • A graduate degree from an accredited Radiologic Sciences program
  • At least one year of experience in Radiology
  • Initial and ongoing training completion as defined by service line, facility, and department (specific to patient population needs)

Licenses & Certifications

Required:

  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
  • Texas Medical Board certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred:

  • Vascular Interventional Certified (ARRT VI)

The Non Clinical Stuff Matters Too

You're expected to support Methodist Healthcare System's mission and vision ; understanding how your role fits into their larger goals. Safety is non negotiable: learn and comply with all policies and rules, use appropriate safety equipment every time, report unsafe conditions immediately to supervisors, know the safety features of every tool or piece of equipment you touch. If you ever have a question about safe procedure for anything job related? Check with your supervisor before starting.

And there's a Code of Conduct at MHS that everyone lives by ; ethical behavior toward patients, colleagues, and the community is part of the gig.
