Sous Chef

About This Role

The Role

This is a Sous Chef position with Resort Lifestyle Communities in San Antonio, TX. We serve seniors in a resort style community, and the work here is more than just cooking. You are part of creating experiences that matter.

You will report to the Executive Chef and help run the kitchen when they are out. Your primary schedule runs lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday. Holidays and events will need your availability too. This is a full time role with benefits.

What You Will Do

  • Own the quality and presentation of every dish that leaves the kitchen.
  • Prepare meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables, and other items using methods like broiling, grilling, frying, and sautéing.
  • Step in to lead the culinary team when the Executive Chef isn't there.
  • Cook scratch made dishes that taste good, look great, and fit what residents actually want.
  • Help train team members using RLC's structured training programs.
  • Keep your workstation clean, sanitary, and well stocked at all times.
  • Manage the Chef's Pantry ; receive products, handle them properly, store them right, rotate stock so nothing goes bad.
  • Monitor refrigerator temperatures, food temps during service, and dish machine temps ; log all of it consistently.
  • Follow closing checklists each shift. Assist other team members when they need backup.
  • Sit in on meetings. Share ideas that could make meals better. Take feedback professionally when you get it.

What You Need

  • Age: You must be 21 or older by law for this role.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED is required. A culinary degree or higher education is preferred but not required.
  • Experience: Previous leadership experience in culinary preparation and cooking is preferred. They don't say exactly how many years ; if you have led a kitchen before and can cook from scratch consistently you should apply regardless of tenure length..
  • Cooking skills: You need to know diverse methods ; broiling grilling frying sautéing across different proteins (meats seafood poultry) plus vegetables . Everything is scratch made here so speed matters but quality matters more .. If you do not love cooking from whole ingredients this won’t fit even if you meet everything else ..
  • A certificate / license thing?: The original posting did not list any specific certifications besides age verification .. So none required beyond what we have described
.
