Respiratory Therapist

The Role

This is a Respiratory Therapist position on the pediatric floor at Methodist Children's Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Right now there's a sign on bonus attached to this opening. Your job is straightforward: deliver respiratory care that's both high quality and centered on each patient's needs, following Texas practice standards and your department's specific requirements.

What You'll Actually Do

You'll handle the full range of respiratory therapy, from assessments to treatment. That includes operating mechanical ventilators and setting up therapeutic gas and aerosol equipment. You'll work with specific parameters for each treatment. When emergencies happen ; code blue situations, cardiac arrest ; you're the person providing artificial ventilation, external chest compressions, and helping with CPR. You'll also draw arterial blood gases, analyze them, recognize what's normal versus abnormal versus critical, and take appropriate corrective action.

What You Need to Have

• A completed Respiratory Therapy Program from an approved school (you graduated).
• A current Texas license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Texas Medical Board ; nonnegotiable.
• A current credential as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) from the NBRC or a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the NBRC if you earned it before July 1, 2002 (grandfathered CRT status).
• BLS certification at hire.
• ACLS certification within 90 days of starting.
• One year of prior respiratory therapy experience is preferred but not required.
• PALS or NRP must be obtained within 90 days if your department requires it.
