About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this Medical ICU night shift.
It's in the float pool at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX, which means you're the strong support when and where it matters most. The idea is to give you what you need so you can focus on patient care. That includes tech to streamline monitoring and communication, robust supplies so you're equipped, and access to ongoing clinical education. They're part of HCA Healthcare, which educates a lot of nurses, and they own Galen College of Nursing, which can make gaining certifications more affordable.
The Work
You'd be coordinating and delivering high quality, patient centered care in the Medical ICU. You'll use a model like "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." In practice, that means a few things.
- Performing procedures and monitoring functions as ordered.
- Documenting administration of care thoroughly and in a timely way.
- Teaching patients and their families about medical conditions, status, treatment plans, medications with side effects, and follow up measures. You'll need to translate complex medical terms so everything's understood.
- Instruction also covers non medicinal follow up like diet, exercise, or lifestyle changes to prepare for future self management.
You'll manage evidence based practices and process improvements to meet quality measures. Collaboration is key; you'll work with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate, evaluate, and customize holistic treatment plans that support recovery.
What They Expect From You
This isn't just about tasks. They're looking for someone who applies the nursing process and critical thinking independently to deliver safe care. You'll collaborate with the team for quality outcomes. Communication, confidence, professionalism; they want to see active engagement in unit activities. Teamwork and adaptability are important; you should be a resource for others. There's accountability here for delivering quality services and promoting a positive image of nursing.
Qualifications & Requirements
- You need to be a graduate from an accredited diploma, associate’s, or baccalaureate degree registered nursing program.
- A minimum of six months of clinical experience as a licensed RN is required.
- A current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or a Multi State Compact License is mandatory. If you have the compact license, you must obtain the Texas RN license within 60 days of your hire date.
