About This Role

Alright, let's talk about this PACU RN role at Methodist Hospital Stone Oak in San Antonio, TX. I've been placing nurses here for years, and they run a serious operation. They need someone who gets what post anesthesia care is all about; it's critical, fast moving work where your judgment is everything.

What You'll Be Doing

You're the nurse assessing patients as they wake up. You're managing pain, watching vitals like a hawk, and making sure that transition from OR to recovery is smooth and safe. It's all about applying the nursing process with sharp critical thinking.

  • Work independently to deliver safe nursing care, but you're never alone; you're collaborating with the whole patient care team to get the best outcomes.
  • Your communication sets the tone. We need professionalism and confidence that shows up in how you engage on the unit.
  • Be adaptable. Be a resource. The team relies on each other, and you'll be a key part of that dynamic.
  • At the end of the day, you're accountable for quality care and for being an ambassador of what good nursing looks like.

What You Need to Bring

Let's be specific about the credentials. This isn't a maybe list.

  • Your RN diploma or degree has to be from an accredited program.
  • You need at least six months of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse under your belt.
  • A current Texas RN license or a Multi State Compact License is mandatory. If you come in with a Compact license, you have 60 days from your start date to get your Texas one sorted.
  • You must obtain your Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within the first 30 days if you don't have it already.

The Schedule & The Environment

You have to be available to take call. That's non negotiable for this unit. The hospital itself is impressive. Over 280 beds, with services covering everything from emergency and surgery to orthopedics and stroke rehab. They're a Joint Commission Primary Stroke Center and Chest Pain Center, and their stroke rehab program has that Gold Seal approval. They're big on robotics and minimally invasive surgery; surgeons come here to train. The place gets top marks: an 'A' from Leapfrog, named one of Modern Healthcare's Top 100 Best Places to Work, and ranked #1 in San Antonio by Medicare.gov. It's a place that invests in technology and its people.

How They Support You

They've built their benefits with nurses in mind. Here’s what that actually means:

  • Tuition Reimbursement and Assistance Programs to help you keep learning.
  • A Certification Support Program when you're ready to specialize further.
  • Paid Personal Leave because everyone needs time off.
  • A 401k with a full match; they match 100% annually, which is 3% to 9% of your pay depending on how long you've been there.
  • The HCA Nurse Care Program offers support resources just for nurses.
  • And for your growth:, they mention access to a comprehensive orientation, mentorship from specialty educators, leadership development programs, and working on units with the latest tech.
