Outside Sales Representative

Ryder System is looking for an Outside Sales Representative to work out of San Antonio, TX. This isn't a desk job. You'll be on the road, meeting with people, and keeping the rental fleet moving. The goal is straightforward: grow revenue, control costs, and make sure every vehicle is working for us, not sitting idle.

What you'll actually do

Outside Sales and Marketing
  • Set appointments with potential customers and visit existing ones to keep them coming back
  • Conduct customer reviews and surveys to figure out if they're happy or not
  • Handle objections head on and sell the real value of the product
  • Put together fleet planning information and give recommendations to the Director of Rental
Rental Operations
  • Make sure rental contracts are filled out correctly every time
  • Ensure customers get a vehicle that's actually ready to drive
  • Act as the custodian of cash and rental assets, including accounts receivable
  • Follow up on problems as they come up
  • Analyze fleet management reports to spot vehicles that are causing issues
  • Check vehicles for physical damage
  • Close contracts and extend them at the right number of days and miles
  • Make sure maintenance and fleet appearance hit company standards
Personnel Management
  • Handle new hire recruitment and selection
  • Provide ongoing guidance, communication, and training
  • Execute performance appraisals and know each person's strengths and weaknesses
  • Develop weak areas into strengths and build on what's already working
Additional Responsibilities
  • Keep the company's marketing database accurate and up to date
  • Maintain and grow relationships with your existing customer base
  • Maximize rate opportunities in the market
  • Provide training and supervision at the rental counter
  • Other duties as assigned

What you need to bring

You'll need a bachelor's degree in Business Administration or equivalent work experience in a similar industry. Five years or more of rental or sales experience is required. On top of that, you need three years or more in the rental product line, specifically outside sales and rental counter supervision. And two years or more managing other people.

You should be proficient in Microsoft Office. That's not a nice to have; it's required at an advanced level. You also need a complete understanding of marketplace conditions so you can maximize utilization of the rental fleet. A deep knowledge of rental operations and asset management is non negotiable.

Compensation and benefits

This is a salaried position. The exact offer depends on your experience, education, certifications, work location, and internal equity. The role may also qualify for an annual bonus, commission, or long term incentive plan depending on the level.
