About This Role
Stroke response times here are nearly half the national average. We use SPOT Technology to catch sepsis earlier than the human eye can, and our Enhanced Surgical Recovery program cuts down on opioid prescriptions and readmissions. We're a national learning health system, which means we're constantly working to transform care, improve outcomes, and empower our nursing teams. It's a collaborative effort to build a healthier tomorrow.
The Role
You'll be an Oncology RN at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Your core focus is delivering high quality, patient centered care that meets both department requirements and state/specialty standards of practice. You'll collaborate with providers and the broader care team to give personalized, compassionate care using established nursing models like "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." You're also an advocate for patients and their families.
What You'll Do
- Assess each patient's condition on admission and every shift; you need to spot changes in status quickly and report them.
- Perform procedures or monitoring as ordered by medical providers. Your documentation of care needs to be thorough and timely.
- Administer prescribed medications while monitoring the patient's therapeutic response. If there's an unintended reaction, you take appropriate action.
- Respond promptly to patient requests. A big part of this job is anticipating what patients might need before they ask.
- Educate patients, families, and caregivers about medical conditions, treatment plans, medications (including possible side effects), and follow up steps. You'll translate complex medical terms so everything is understood completely.
What You Need
- A graduate from an accredited diploma, associate's degree (ADN), or baccalaureate degree (BSN) registered nursing program.
- A minimum of six months of clinical experience as a licensed Registered Nurse.
- A current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or a Multi State Compact License. If you have a compact license when hired, you must obtain your Texas RN license within 60 days.
- A current American Heart Association BLS Certification.
