About This Role
The Gig
Machine Operator at Refresco in San Antonio, TX. It's a production floor role where you're the person who keeps the lines moving. You're not just watching a machine run; you're reading gauges, interpreting measurements in both imperial and metric, and performing changeovers when the product switches. You'll supply raw materials to the equipment, do minor servicing when something's off, and keep an eye on what's happening upstream and downstream to prevent jams or slowdowns. When the machine stops, you'll figure out why, follow the escalation process if you need help, and get it running again.
Sanitation is part of the deal too. You'll clean your area and the equipment as needed, and leadership might assign you to help with general plant sanitation or inventory tasks. You'll work alongside folks from other departments to cut waste, bump up quality, and make the whole line more efficient. There's also training. Monthly training that you're expected to complete on time, and sometimes cross training into other roles.
What you'll be doing day to day
- Following all health and safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices, and wearing your PPE (hairnets, beard nets, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard toe and slip resistant shoes, gloves, and seatbelt on forklifts).
- Reading and understanding the production schedule, then flagging any issues to the right person.
- Keeping accurate downtime reports and production records.
- Following QA and production standard operating procedures to the letter.
- Performing equipment changeovers and understanding both imperial and metric measurements.
- Conducting minor machine maintenance and general sanitation in your area.
- Listening and watching for visual and auditory cues that signal a machine or production problem.
- Operating a forklift if you have the certification and it's required.
What you need
- A High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment. Experience in a high speed beverage production setting is preferred.
- Basic math skills. You need to be comfortable with numbers and measurements.
- The ability to read gauges, thermometers, and weight measurements accurately.
- A solid understanding of production machinery and forklifts, including some technical awareness.
- Formal training in WHIMIS, HACCP, or Hygiene is a plus. Forklift certification may be required.
Schedule and conditions
You'll work weekdays, weekends, afternoons, evenings, overnight shifts, and possibly holidays. Overtime gets scheduled as needed. The plant is fast moving, loud enough that you'll wear hearing protection, and the temperature can swing from very hot to relatively cold. It's a structured, supervised environment with clear production targets. Travel is not expected at all.
