About This Role

Hey there. I'm a recruiter for Methodist Hospital Metropolitan, and I've been doing this long enough to know when a role is genuinely different. This isn't your standard floor LVN job. It's PRN work in our Nephrology unit, which means you're stepping into a high acuity environment where the patients have complex needs. We need someone who thrives on that level of detail and observation.

The Work You'll Do

You'll be providing focused nursing care for patients with kidney related conditions. That means administering medications, managing lines or drains, and assisting with interventions like cardiac monitoring.

A huge part of this is observation. You're watching for subtle changes; a shift in heart rhythm, a dip in oxygen levels, a neurological sign; and you need to be confident escalating those concerns immediately. Your documentation has to be timely and accurate because the whole care team relies on it to coordinate effectively.

You're also helping patients and families understand what's happening. These are complex conditions, so explaining recovery steps with clarity and comfort is key. You'll work closely with RNs, providers, and specialists to stabilize patients and help guide their transition from intensive care toward recovery.

What You Need to Bring

  • A Vocational School diploma or Associates Degree as an LPN/LVN graduate.
  • Your Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (or Graduate Vocational Nurse) credential; you must obtain it within 30 days of starting if you don't have it already.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification; also required within your first 30 days.
  • The clinical skill and presence for this specific setting. It's detailed work that directly impacts patient stability.

A Bit About Us

Methodist Hospital Metropolitan is a 370 bed facility with the largest ER in downtown San Antonio. We're known for some pretty specific things: our freestanding women's pavilion, welcoming about 3,000 newborns a year; our Weight Loss Center, which is a designated Center of Excellence; and being the first hospital in San Antonio to achieve Pathway to Excellence designation.

We've been recognized by Modern Healthcare as a Best Place to Work. Leapfrog gave us a Grade A Hospital Safety Score for eight consecutive periods. We're an Accredited Chest Pain Center and Primary Stroke Center, and we were the first Texas hospital to earn a Gold Seal for Sepsis Certification. The point is, we take safety and quality seriously here.
