Interventional Radiology Technologist
About This Role
Alright, let's talk about this role. It's for a Registered Nurse in the Special Procedures unit at Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant in San Antonio, TX. This isn't your standard med surg floor. You're working with patients who need more intensive, focused care.
What you'll be doing
You're the primary nurse for your patients. That means you own their care from the moment they come in until they leave your unit.
- You assess each patient thoroughly on admission and every single shift after that. If something changes, you spot it and report it immediately.
- The job involves performing procedures and monitoring patients based on doctor's orders. Everything you do gets documented clearly and promptly in their chart.
- A big part of this is medication administration. You give what's prescribed, watch how the patient responds, and handle it if there's an unintended reaction.
- Exceptional care means being proactive. You answer call lights quickly, but you also try to anticipate what your patients might need before they even ask.
- You'll spend time teaching patients and their families about conditions, treatment plans, medications; including potential side effects; and what to do after they leave. Your job is to make complex medical info easy to understand.
What we need from you
A few non negotiables here. You've got to have the right foundation.
- An active RN license is required. Your education can be an Associate Degree, a Bachelor’s Degree, or a Nursing Diploma.
- You need at least two years of recent critical care experience. Think ICU, CCU; that level of acuity.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is mandatory; you have 30 days from your start date to get it if you don't already have it.
- ACLS certification specific for RNs is also required from day one.
- Be ready for on call duty. It's part of the job here.
The schedule & support
The position requires full time hours with that on call component I mentioned. The hospital itself has a serious reputation to uphold; it's not just any facility.
Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant is over 260 beds strong and nationally known, especially for its transplant programs through the Texas Transplant Institute; they actually set a U.S. record a few years back. Beyond transplants, they handle specialized liver cancer care, vascular surgery, inpatient rehab, bariatric surgery (they're a designated Center of Excellence), and more. They've consistently scored top marks for patient safety and experience. You'd be working in a place that demands high quality and has the track record to prove it.
