Respiratory Therapy Extern - PRN
This is a clinical role for someone currently enrolled in a respiratory care program who has already completed one semester of clinical practicum. You'll work under the supervision and guidance of a licensed Respiratory Therapist, learning on the job while providing real patient care.
What you'll do
- Set up and operate therapeutic gas administration, aerosol generators, and disposable medical products ; following specific physician ordered treatment parameters
- Provide emergency care when needed, including artificial ventilation, external cardiac message, and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- Read prescriptions and review patient information to assess each patient's condition before treatment
- Evaluate what type of treatment is needed ; including modality, duration, medication and dosage ; making sure everything matches physician orders
- Monitor how patients respond to therapy by checking vital signs, pulse oximetry, and doing auscultation; then consult with your preceptor or shift supervisor if anything changes
- Work as part of a team alongside physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to manage patient care and enforce safety rules
- Keep patient records updated and handle routine operation of respiratory care equipment
- Follow all safety policies, use proper equipment and procedures at all times, report unsafe conditions immediately to supervisors
- Adhere to the Methodist Healthcare System Code of Conduct ; this includes reporting any activity that appears to violate laws, regulations or the Code itself
- Complete other duties as assigned

- Completed at least one semester of clinical practicum in that program
