About This Role
What you'll actually do
You're evaluating patients before surgery, and you take that seriously. You handle patient prep too ; that means IV therapy, giving preoperative meds, and verifying the surgical site. You'll participate in the whole verification process: briefing, time out, debriefing, following universal protocols per hospital policy.
When a patient emergency happens, you recognize it and respond. No hesitation. You deliver high quality care that's centered on the patient while managing evidence based practices and improvement initiatives. You're a core member of an interdisciplinary team with providers, surgeons, and surgical technologists.
You'll apply the nursing process consistently ; critical thinking, scientific judgment, technical skills, leadership ; to safely nurse your patients independently. Throughout your shift you assess their condition, monitor them, document every change along with the care you provided. And you educate patients and their families about the medical condition itself plus treatment and follow up steps.
Schedule details & culture
Scheduling is self/preferential and posted four weeks out so you know what's coming. There's a real culture of mutual respect among all surgical staff here ; they don't just say that. Equipment like surgical instruments, devices and patient positioning gets continuous investment so you can do your best work with safety and efficiency in mind.
Leaders round regularly ; including charge nurses ; so your voice gets heard on suggestions for patient care and workflow improvements in the OR.
