The Role
This is a Biomedical Technician position with U.S. Renal Care in San Antonio, TX. You'll be the person who keeps everything running ; the water treatment equipment, the dialysis machines, the mechanical and electrical systems that patients and staff rely on every day. Your work directly affects patient safety and staff safety, so it's a job that demands real attention to detail and a sense of ownership.
What You'll Actually Do
You'll troubleshoot, repair, and maintain equipment according to manufacturer recommendations. That means repairing, calibrating, testing, cleaning, and disinfecting dialysis machines, the water distribution loop, and RO units. You'll perform water quality checks ; free chlorine, total chlorine, and water hardness testing ; along with safety checks on all pretreatment water equipment including carbon tanks, water softeners, RO units, UV lamps, and ultrafilters.
- Collect samples of RO water and dialysate for microbiology testing, plus water samples for AAMI analysis testing
- Handle disinfection of the central bicarbonate system, mixing tank, RO system, distribution system, and hemodialysis machines
- Perform electrical safety checks on dialysis machines and related equipment
- Start up and shut down the facility's equipment when needed
- Maintain preventative maintenance programs and keep accurate equipment records
- Mix bicarbonate solution and acid concentrate solution following protocol
- Address physical environment issues that could affect patient and staff safety
- Assist with purchasing ; place orders, do weekly and month end inventory counts
- Follow FIFO inventory control procedures and help document excess inventory
- Receive, store, and stock supplies
- Know all emergency equipment and emergency operational procedures
- Use safety measures including personal protective equipment when needed
- Stay familiar with OSHA regulations and update Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
- Keep track of contracts and contacts for emergency repair of clinic equipment and mechanical systems
- Get quotes from approved contractors for physical environment issues
- Present technical summaries in QAPI meetings
- Work closely with the Administrator to make sure clinic needs are met
- Practice GUEST customer service standards and build effective relationships across the organization
- Respond to inquiries or concerns
- Attend staff meetings, in service training, and continuing education as required by company policy
- Complete initial and annual technical training on clinical staff
- Instruct staff on equipment use and answer their questions
- Participate in team concepts and support a team effort
What You Need
High school diploma or equivalent is required. You need a valid driver's license in the applicable state, and it must be maintained as current with no restrictions and a good driving record. You must be able to distinguish all primary colors. You need to react and perform well under stress and in emergency situations. You have to communicate effectively with others, both verbally and in writing, with a demonstrated working knowledge of the English language. You should be able to work independently and also with others to plan and organize work assignments.
Previous dialysis, hospital, or medical experience is preferred but not required.
