About This Role
This Job Could Be For You
I'm a real recruiter with 12 years in the game, and I know that finding the right gig is about more than just scanning a list of bullet points. It's about finding a place that actually invests in you. US Foods is one of the largest food distributors in the U.S., and they're offering something that's rare these days: a real career path with a comprehensive training program. They don't just throw you in the deep end. Their leaders provide extensive coaching, sales tools, and mentoring to set you up for long term success. This isn't a job; it's a foundation.
What You'll Actually Do
This is a Territory Manager role in San Antonio, TX. You'll be out in the field, not stuck behind a desk. Here's the real breakdown of what that means day to day:
- You own the customer relationship within a team based selling model. That means you're the go to person for your accounts.
- You'll educate customers on ordering platforms, give menu consultations, recommend products, and lay out pricing strategies that help them succeed.
- Your performance is measured by selling, increasing case growth, and winning new business. You'll do that through impactful sales presentations tailored to each customer.
- You'll work collaboratively with Specialists to crack top penetration opportunities and help open new accounts. You'll also coordinate with marketing, supply chain, and customer service to make sure product delivery is seamless.
- You'll develop new business by finding prospective customers using market intelligence databases, business directories, following leads from existing clients, joining organizations and clubs, and attending trade shows and conferences.
- You'll manage deliveries to the routing schedule from the transportation department. That means troubleshooting any order hiccups like mis picks, short loads, or stock outs.
- You need to know the market, product innovations, and what competitors are doing with their products, prices, and sales. Then you share that intel with customers as a value added service.
- You'll drive your personal vehicle for regular check ins, site visits, and follow ups to keep customers happy.
Where You'll Work
This is not a desk job. Your daily environment is outside the office, working in your assigned territory. You'll be visiting customers in all kinds of weather and temperature conditions. It's real, it's active, and it's not for everyone. But if you like being out there, it's a lot more interesting than staring at a screen.
What You Need to Bring
I'm not going to say "must be able to" a bunch of times. Let's be direct. Here's what's actually required:
- You have a valid driver's license and a motor vehicle record that's in good standing. Non negotiable.
- You have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One year or more of sales experience is preferred. If you have it, great. If not, don't worry.
- Experience in foodservice, culinary, restaurant management, or hospitality is preferred. It'll help you hit the ground running.
- You can communicate clearly, both in writing and in presentations. That's essential.
- You can build relationships internally and externally, and you're comfortable cold calling to develop new business.
- You have solid customer service instincts and interpersonal skills.
- You've got a competitive streak and a genuine drive to exceed goals.
- You can solve problems, organize your time, and negotiate when needed.
- You have a team up mentality. You work well with internal and external stakeholders.
- You're tech savvy. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected; experience with CRM tools like Salesforce is a plus.
- On occasion, you might need to lift or carry up to 75 lbs. It's not a daily thing, but it can happen.
What's In It For You
This is where it gets good. US Foods doesn't just talk about benefits; they put them in place on day one.
- A competitive salary plus a market leading performance based incentive program. This role also qualifies for incentive compensation.
- Health, dental, and vision insurance start on your very first day of employment.
- 401K plan options to help you save for the future.
- Paid time off that you can actually use.
- Short term and long term disability coverage.
- An employee stock purchase plan and life insurance options.
- Mileage reimbursement for all that driving you'll be doing.
- And the real kicker: genuine opportunity for career growth in a thriving industry.
