The Job in a Nutshell

Maximus is a federal contractor that works on some pretty serious stuff ; national security, defense, and public service. They just landed some major contract awards in cybersecurity and operational readiness, and they need a Senior Back End Developer to support that work.

This role is in San Antonio, TX and you'll be onsite five days a week. It's also contingent on the contract award going through, so you'd get a conditional offer that becomes final once everything's signed and cleared.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You're the back end expert on the team. That means you own the architecture ; designing and building out the systems that support new and existing capabilities. You'll be deep in database work, building RESTful APIs, and managing data models. You'll also be analyzing requirements, writing them up, and building functional models and procedures. Basically, if it lives on the server side, it's your domain.

• Design and develop back end architectures for current and new system capabilities
• Build, modify, and maintain RESTful APIs
• Handle database management and optimize data models
• Integrate new systems and capabilities with existing infrastructure
• Prepare, conduct, and document systems tests to make sure everything works as intended
• Support process improvement and specialized studies as needed

What You Need to Have

This role requires an active TS/SCI clearance ; no exceptions. You also need to be in San Antonio, TX five days a week, full stop. Here's what else is non negotiable:

• 10 years of software development experience in object oriented and scripted languages
• 5 years specifically doing back end web design and development
• 10 years working with relational databases, RESTful API development and integration
• 5 years with Python and PostgreSQL
• 5 years using bug tracking software like Jira
• 5 years testing web based applications
• 5 years leading software development projects or programs
• 3 years with AWS Infrastructure, Kubernetes, and RedHat Linux
• 5 years of experience with at least five of these: Postgres, RDS, Exodus, Python, Luna, Java, Docker, OpenJDK, Ansible, Packer, Maven, Kubernetes, Red Hat
• Practical experience developing in a cloud environment

What Would Make You Stand Out

These aren't required, but they'll get you noticed:

• Experience integrating data from unclassified environments into classified application deployments
• 5 years with DoW software development
• Agile Test Driven development experience
• Working in DoW DevSecOps environments
• 5 years with CI/CD software development
• Experience with UX design tool suites like Sketch or InVision
• Structuring data for machine learning or AI capabilities

Benefits and Compensation

Maximus pays an annual salary based on your location, experience, education, and how the market and internal equity shake out. They also factor in seniority and merit. An applicant's salary history won't be used.

On top of base pay, there are short- and long term incentives, plus program specific awards. Benefits include health insurance, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays, and paid time off.
