Respiratory Therapist
About This Role
Hey there. I'm Michelle, the recruiter for this role. I've been doing this for over a decade, and I can tell you; this isn't just another hospital job listing. Sierra Medical Center is a 170 bed acute care facility that's part of the Northern Nevada Health System. We handle everything from cardiology and oncology to a Level II NICU and 24/7 emergency care. The team here has built something special, and we're looking for a Respiratory Therapist who gets what that means.
The Role
You'll report to the Critical Care Director, Medical Director, and Respiratory Department Manager. Your core mission is to deliver respiratory care by following specific physician orders and our department's protocols.
That means you're the expert on oxygen delivery methods and all the related equipment. You need to stay sharp, watching for any possible side effects during treatment. You'll administer various respiratory therapies, understanding not just the 'how' but the 'why' behind each one and what to watch out for.
A big part of this job involves mechanical ventilators. You'll be setting them up, monitoring them, and handling the critical care that goes with them; think airway management and tracheal suctioning. You'll also perform arterial punctures to draw blood for gas analysis; you need to know the potential complications inside and out.
What You Need to Bring
- A current State Respiratory Therapist License.
- You must be a graduate of an AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy.
- BLS and ACLS certifications are required from day one.
- We need you to have at least five years of verifiable experience as a therapist.
- Specific experience in a Level III NICU or higher is required, with more than two years preferred.
- Experience with neonatal transport is a big plus.
- You'll need to get your PALS certification, NRP certification, and become a certified Blood Gas Technologist within your first 90 days on the job.
